Installing software licenses for VPS and dedicated servers Print

  • 0

Overview

Many server tools require paid licenses tied to the server IP, hostname, license key, or provider account. Common examples include cPanel, CloudLinux, LiteSpeed, Softaculous, SitePad, Imunify, JetBackup, Acronis integrations, WHMCS, Zamfoo, and commercial WordPress tools.

General process

  • Purchase the license from the vendor, data center, or authorized reseller.
  • Confirm the server IP, hostname, and operating system meet requirements.
  • Install the vendor repository or installer using the vendor's current instructions.
  • Activate with the license key or server IP authorization.
  • Verify the license status from the command line or control panel.
  • Document renewal date, vendor login, license key, assigned IP, and support contact.

Important

Use the vendor's current installation documentation for exact commands. License installers change over time, and using outdated scripts can break a production server.

Server owner responsibility

Owning a server includes updates, firewall, backups, monitoring, licenses, abuse response, mail reputation, DNS, and customer communication. Keep a written checklist so routine tasks are not handled from memory.
